Research Vessel Surface Meteorology Data Center

Our WOCE data may be accessed by several categories:

Buoy Data
The Subduction ExperimentA two year field experiment involving an array of five surface moorings deployed in the eastern North Atlantic.

Research Vessel Data
Ship ListA list of ships whose data appears on this server
All CruisesAll the data we have for all cruises. (Note: this table is quite large, ~500k, and may take several minutes to load, especially on slow connections.)
Pacific OceanAll Pacific Ocean Data
One-time CruisesAll Pacific Ocean one-time cruises. One-time lines are hydrographic sections completed only once during the WOCE field phase. Frequently these lines are completed in segments (north, south, etc.) and, on occasion, are completed more than once.
Repeat CruisesAll Pacific Ocean repeat cruises. Repeat lines are hydrographic sections or regions upon which multiple cruises are completed during the WOCE field phase. The frequency (monthly, biannual, etc.) of the cruises varies.
Time Series CruisesAll Pacific Ocean time series cruises.
Atlantic OceanAll Atlantic Ocean Data

Cruise Table Headers

The cruises in the tables listed above have several headers:

* denotes link to data

WOCE Line*An alphanumeric code that identifies the WOCE hydrographic section. By clicking a WOCE line, you can access the individual cruise information for that WOCE line.
Date PublicThe date that the final quality controlled version of the meteorological data was released to the WOCE community. When N/A appears in this column, WOCEMET has determined by means of communication with the data provider, that no meteorological data are available for that hydrographic section. Typically these data were either lost, corrupted, or had serious flaws (e.g., lack of navigation data) that made them scientifically useless. The column is left blank when the data status for the cruise is unknown. We urge you to register with RVSMDC to receive updates on the status of unknown cruises.
WHPO Start DateStart date of port-to-port WOCE cruise as listed by WOCE Hydrographic Program Office (WHPO).
WHPO End DateEnd date of port-to-port WOCE cruise as listed by WOCE Hydrographic Program Office (WHPO).
Data Start DateStart date of data available for cruise from this archive.
Data End DateEnd date of data available for cruise from this archive.
Other Woce Lines*Some port-to-port WOCE cruises cover several WOCE hydrographic sections. By clicking the highlighted WOCE line in this column you can access the individual cruise information for all similarly named WOCE lines.
Cruise Track Code*Code assigned to WOCE hydrographic lines by RVSMDC. By clicking the highlighted cruise track code in this column you can access the quality control report, cruise track map, and documentation for that hydrographic section. For your convenience, we have provided cruise maps for each quality controlled hydrographic section. The cruise maps are constructed using only correct ship position data. Missing values and erroneous positions are removed and may result in breaks in the cruise track.
R/V Name*Clicking highlighted vessel name takes you to data download page for that vessel.
ExpocodeA unique alphanumeric code for a cruise provided by the WOCE Hydrographic Project Office. This code can be used to match meteorology data to other WOCE data types.
Chief ScientistLead scientist on WOCE cruise.
R/V Country*Country that sponsors the cruise. By clicking on the R/V Country or here you can access a discriptive list of the country codes.
Time ResolutionThe time difference (in minutes) between successive observations in the data set. This ranges from 1 to 360 minutes depending on the data source.
Other ExpocodesSome cruises are completed in multiple legs with different expocodes. Multiple expocodes are listed here.
