Data Download README: To access WOCEMET's surface meteorology data, you must be on either an individual ship page (i.e. Meteor, http://www.coaps.fsu.edu/RVSMDC/cgi-bin/ship.cgi?id=DBBH) OR WOCE line page (i.e. http://www.coaps.fsu.edu/RVSMDC/cgi-bin/woce_line.cgi?woce_line=AR04E). HOW DO YOU GET THE DATA FILES: 1) Select desired cruise or cruises by clicking the gray box in the "Download" column (far left) of the table. 2) Select your compression preference in the pull down menu to the right of "Compression Method" (at bottom of page). 3) Click the "Start Download" button. At this point you should be prompted to choose the location on your system for the data files. HOW IS THE FILENAME CREATED: Each filename in which the data is stored is truely unique so that no two downloads will contain the same filename. Example filename: rvsmdc-data-20020211-143901.tar.gz * rvsmdc- Research Vessel Surface Meteorology Data Center * data- Description to inform user what they are downloading. * 20020211- YYYYMMDD, This set of numbers shows the year (YYYY), month (MM), and day (DD) the data was downloaded. * 143901.- The time past midnight when the data download began. * tar.gz- Shows that the file is a g-zipped tar file. WHAT INFORMATION IS CONTAINED IN EACH WOCE DOWNLOADED FILE: To illustrate the contents of your downloaded files we will follow an example for two cruises on the R/V Meteor. Our example directory structure tree is (note: 4 levels shown): woce/ woce_README .....rv/ ........docs/ ........DBBH/ .............AR_04E-06/ .............IR_01W-02/ 1. In the primary (top) directory (woce/) you will find a directory where the data and documentation are stored. A few possible directories could be: rv/ = research vessel data; buoy/ = buoy data; drifter/ = drifter data. ./woce>ls rv/ 2. Change directories to (./woce> cd rv), here you have a choice to either look at R/V Meteor data (DBBH/) or documentation for the data (docs/). ./woce/rv>ls DBBH/ docs/ 3. Change directories to (./woce/rv> cd docs). The docs/ directory contains documents describing the ASCII/netCDF (wcdpubas.html/wcdpubnc.html) formats of our data. Also, documentation about WOCEMET's file naming convention (wcdpubfnc.html) and our (WOCEMET) logos used in these documents are found under the docs/ directory. For the convience of the user, the documents in this directory are provided in both .html and .ps formats. ./woce/rv/docs>ls coapslog.gif wcdpubas.html wcdpubfnc.html wcdpubnc.html smalwoce.gif wcdpubas.ps wcdpubfnc.ps wcdpubnc.ps 4. Change directories to (./woce/rv/docs> cd ../DBBH). The DBBH/ or other research vessel directories, will contain individual cruise (i.e., AR_04E-06/ and IR_01W-02/) directories along with a copy of the Quality Control Report for each cruise in .html, .ps, and .pdf formats. Note: It is possible to have multiple cruises and only one set of QC Reports. This is due to multiple cruises being included in the same QC Report. ./woce/rv/DBBH>ls AR_04E-06/ DBBH_121697.pdf IR_01W-02/ DBBH_121697.html DBBH_121697.ps 5. Change directories to (./woce/rv/DBBH> cd AR_04E-06), shows an example output of the contents in a WOCE cruise directory. The cruise track code .gif (AR_04E-06.gif) image shows the cruise path during the entire time period of data. The cruise track code .html, .ps, and .pdf (i.e., AR_04E-06.html, AR_04E-06.ps, AR_04E-06.pdf) are copies of the corresponding quality control report in the specified format. The .asc and .nc files listed contain the data, the user has the option of which format to use. Please see the wcdpubas.html and wcdpubnc.html documents in ./woce/rv/docs/ directory for information about the similarities and differences of these two formats. ./woce/rv/DBBH/AR_04E-06>ls AR_04E-06.gif DBBH.940226001v300.asc DBBH.940307001v300.asc AR_04E-06.html DBBH.940226001v300.nc DBBH.940307001v300.nc AR_04E-06.pdf DBBH.940227001v300.asc DBBH.940308001v300.asc AR_04E-06.ps DBBH.940227001v300.nc DBBH.940308001v300.nc DBBH.940219001v300.asc DBBH.940228001v300.asc DBBH.940309001v300.asc DBBH.940219001v300.nc DBBH.940228001v300.nc DBBH.940309001v300.nc DBBH.940220001v300.asc DBBH.940301001v300.asc DBBH.940310001v300.asc DBBH.940220001v300.nc DBBH.940301001v300.nc DBBH.940310001v300.nc DBBH.940221001v300.asc DBBH.940302001v300.asc DBBH.940311001v300.asc DBBH.940221001v300.nc DBBH.940302001v300.nc DBBH.940311001v300.nc DBBH.940222001v300.asc DBBH.940303001v300.asc DBBH.940312001v300.asc DBBH.940222001v300.nc DBBH.940303001v300.nc DBBH.940312001v300.nc DBBH.940223001v300.asc DBBH.940304001v300.asc DBBH.940325001v300.asc DBBH.940223001v300.nc DBBH.940304001v300.nc DBBH.940325001v300.nc DBBH.940224001v300.asc DBBH.940305001v300.asc DBBH.940326001v300.asc DBBH.940224001v300.nc DBBH.940305001v300.nc DBBH.940326001v300.nc DBBH.940225001v300.asc DBBH.940306001v300.asc DBBH.940225001v300.nc DBBH.940306001v300.nc 6.
