Introduction:

The data referenced in this report were collected from the research vessel Sogen Maru (Call sign: JNQK; Data Provider: unknown/ H. Watanabe) standard bridge observations for one cruise covering two WOCE hydrographic lines. These data were received by the Data Assembly Center (DAC) in electronic format and converted to a standard FSU format. They were then preprocessed using an automated data checking program. Next the Data Quality Evaluator completed a visual inspection and reviewed, modified, and added appropriate Quality Control (QC) flags to the data. Details of the WOCE QC procedures can be found in Smith et al (1996). The data quality control report summarizes the flags for the Sogen Maru standard bridge observations, including those added by both the preprocessor and the Data Quality Evaluator.



Statistical Information:

The data referenced in this report were expected to include observations taken roughly every 6 hours by the Sogen Maru bridge crew. The details of the cruise including start and end date, number of values, number of records, number of flags, and percentage are presented in table 1.

Time (TIME), latitude (LAT), longitude (LON), earth relative wind direction (DIR), earth relative wind speed (SPD), atmospheric pressure (P), and air temperature (T) were the variables analyzed. A total of 245 values were checked with no flags added by the preprocessor of the Data Quality Evaluator.
Summary:

The standard bridge observations from the Sogen Maru proved to be very reliable. No values were flagged by the prescreener and the visual inspection revealed no other problems with the data.


Final Note:

These data are in outstanding condition and should present no problems for the user.
