The Center for Ocean-Atmospheric Predictions Studies (COAPS) at the Florida State University (FSU) invites applications for:

  1. Meteorological Data Analyst

    The Center for Ocean-Atmospheric Prediction Studies (COAPS) has an immediate opening for a full-time meteorological data analyst.

    TYPE OF WORK:

    Meteorological data analysis and quality control of shipboard meteorological data in support of the Shipboard Automated Meteorological and Oceanographic System (SAMOS) initiative (http://samos.coaps.fsu.edu). Additional data analysis activities may be assigned in support of ongoing research activities at COAPS.

    DUTIES:

    Quality control of surface meteorological data from research vessels, under the supervision of our lead data analyst. Conducting directed atmospheric research in support of ongoing COAPS research activities Technical writing of data quality reports and contributing to science manuscripts Computer programming to support both quality control operations and research activities

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Position requires a B. S. in meteorology or related physical science and the candidate must possess a strong background in synoptic meteorology, surface data analysis, and/or instrumentation.

    DESIRED SKILLS:

    Experience working with marine meteorological data Strong oral and written communication skills Experience with a scientific programming language (e. g., FORTRAN, C, or IDL)

    The successful candidate will be able to meet assigned deadlines, work independently, and contribute to our team research environment.

    This is an OPS non-benefited hourly position in the Florida State University classification. Wage is $15 per hour. COAPS is an Equal Opportunity/Access/ Affirmative Action Employer.
