COAPS NSCAT Monthly-Mean Gridded Data Download Area






Global grids of half degree resolution, monthly averaged, surface wind stress over water are available. The stresses are determined from NSCAT observations through the use of David Weissman's stress model function. Two data sets are available: smoothed and unsmoothed. The smoothing function is a 1-2-1 filter (forward and backward) applied once in each spatial dimension. The tropical stresses are quite smooth without any smoothing. The smoothed stresses can be viewed.

From this interface, you can download individual files, files grouped by month, or the entire collection of gridded NSCAT data produced here at COAPS.

These files are in NetCDF format, which can be obtained from UNIDATA. Tools for translating our NetCDF data files to ASCII grids are available.
