My current research focuses on studying physical processes and circulation within the Gulf of Mexico. My research projects include studies of estuarine systems and their connectivity with the offshore environment, studies of the ocean response to hurricanes, and deepwater processes over steep topography. I explore these problems by analyzing observational data and by performing experiments with numerical ocean models. I am particularly interested in interdisplinary applications of the physical oceanographic studies, establishing collaborations with researchers in meteorology and the biological sciences. As part of the Northern Gulf of Mexico Institute, I am developing a high-resolution ocean model for the Big Bend Region in the northeastern Gulf, which will form the central component of a coupled ocean-atmospheric-biogeochemical real-time modeling system integrated with an observational network.
