In-situ ship-board wind observations are compared to NSCAT and ERS winds. The winds used in this study are restricted to automatic observation systems such as IMET.


The utilization of mobile platforms insures a wide variety of wind speeds and sea states.


Comparison of ERS-1 winds and in-situ IMET winds. 'True wind' refers to an earth relative wind: the observed winds have been corrected for the ships' motion.
