The Poseidon OGCM is being wrapped into the GEOS_Generic framework at NASA GMAO, an extension to the Earth System Modeling Framework. As such, coupling to sea-ice and biogeochemical models will be incorporated through the Gridded Component / Coupler paradigm inherent in the GEOS5 modeling approach. This talk will examine the implications of this approach in the context of available sea ice models, requirements for ocean physics, exchange fluxes, conservation properties and dynamics.
