Yves Morel and Remy Baraille, SHOM/CMO
The MOUTON project is a SHOM (French Navy oceanographic service) program launched in 2001. It aims at extending the operational capability of the French Navy nowcast/forecast systems to coastal zones. Part of the project relies on the development of a regional model of the north-eastern Atlantic based on HYCOM and covering both the coastal and deep areas. Several campaigns at sea have been conducted to evaluate the ability of the model to accurately reproduce important processes such as : tides and internal tides, tidal fronts, up and downwellings, mesoscale dynamics, river plumes, gravity currents, ... The presentation will sum up the results that have been obtained and the future developments we have planed.
