The TOPAZ3 forecasting system

ABSTRACT
The TOPAZ system has been upgraded in June 2007. TOPAZ3 has twice the horizontal resolution of its predecessor (11 to 16 km) and the assimilation of ice drift data has been implemented. TOPAZ3 uses the Ensemble Kalman Filter with 100 members and runs once a week with assimilation of altimeter data, sea surface temperature and sea-ice concentrations. The data are available on an OPeNDAP server through http://topaz.nersc.no and the assessment is done in collaboration with the MERSEA project. The presentation will highlight recent development and use of the system in the Arctic.
