Telemetry System

Most atmospheric and oceanic data were telemetered to shore in real-time via a radio frequency communication system. The signals were received at the FSU Coastal & Marine Laboratory in St. Teresa, FL and then synced to servers at COAPS. The observation delivery frequency was 10 minutes for the atmospheric data and hourly for the ocean measurements. Higher sampling rate ocean observations were stored in sensor memory and extracted when the instruments were retrieved. Occasional transmission failures occurred and typically fell into two modes: (1) primarily during heavy maritime fog that limited RF capability and (2) less frequently, breaks in sensor cables.
