"...run, run,
river, carry me to my home in the ocean..."
- Jon Swift
about me
A Brief History
I was born on 30 April 1985 in a hospital in Reno, NV, and spent the first years of my life in the town of South Lake Tahoe, CA. At the age of 7, my family moved across the country and settled down in Annapolis, MD, the area I consider my home. I graduated from Broadneck Senior High School in 2003 and left home to pursue Bachelor Degrees in Meteorology and Mathematics at Florida State University. I am currently still at FSU, working on a PhD in Physical Oceanography.

Research Interests
My background in Meteorology and Mathematics has facilitated my strong desire to understand the dynamics of the world's ocean systems. That being said, coastal ocean dynamics are of considerable interest to me. The coasts are the areas where people interact with the ocean, and so understanding how ocean dynamics are affected by the coast is an important area of study. I am interested in numerical modeling of ocean systems, and also how atmospheric forcing can drive large and mesoscale motions. While I enjoy modeling, analyzing the physical ocean through observations remains an interest of mine as well. Numerical modeling may provide a good approximation to ocean processes, although observations provide measurements of the actual processes occurring in the ocean. Other research interests include bio-physical connectivity in the coastal ocean, atmospheric dynamics, and polar oceanography.

Personal Interests
I've always considered myself an environmentalist, a lot which I imagine stems from my father's influence as a hydrologist working with the US Forest Service. I do my part by riding my bicycle whenever possible, obsessively recycling, and supporting the development alternative methods of harnessing energy. In my free time, I enjoy soccer, swimming, running, cycling, surfing, scuba diving, and playing guitar. I still have a passion for the weather, and I love watching clouds and storms. One day I hope to move to a cooler climate than Tallahassee, but for now I am enjoying myself at school in North Florida.
