An inter-comparison of data assimilation methods for HYCOM

ABSTRACT
The performance of several data assimilation schemes including, Multivariate Optimal Interpolation (MVOI), Ensemble Optimal Interpolation (ENOI), Ensemble Reduced Order Information Filter(ENROIF) and Singlular Evolutive Extended (SEEK) assimilation schemes are being compared as part of an ongoing data assimilation inter-comparison project within the hycom consortium. Results from twin experiments with Hycom configured for the Gulf Of Mexico (1/12 degree resolution) and using MVOI, ENOI and ENROIF to assimilate synthetic altimeter data will be presented
