I am working with Doron Nof (FSU oceanography department) and Eric Chassignet in COAPS.
My research is focused on the dynamics of retrofecting currents, including the Agulhas, Brazil and North Brazil currents. One of the main objectives of my investigation is to understand the conditions under which the 'arrest' of retroflection occurs and no rings are shed. Specifically, I focus on understanding the main cause of shutdown of the Agulhas leakage during glacials. I use an analytical "reduced gravity" nonlinear model developed in my preceding papers, with account of coastal geometry and wind forcing. In order to prove my results, I also run numerical models, such as a modified Black and Boudra model of "reduced gravity", as well as a numerical model developed at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
I also study the dynamics of isolated vortices moving along the (meridional) coast. The aim is to forecast theoretically their behavior after passing near the corner of the coast and entering to the "open" ocean.
