My research focuses on the improvement of the HYbrid Coordinate Ocean Model (HYCOM) on interannual and decadal time scale. This work has started under the framework of the Coordinated Ocean-ice Reference Experiments (COREs). This project has helped to understand and document the behavior of HYCOM coupled with the ice model CICE on a 300-year experiment. The results led to significant improvements in the ocean and ice circulation. The on-going work is the implementation of HYCOM as an alternative ocean component to POP in the Community Earth System Model (CESM). The goals of this research are two fold: 1) to evaluate HYCOM and the impact of ocean resolution in long-term climate simulations and 2) to compare high-resolution HYCOM (1/12ยบ) coupled with the atmospheric model CAM (CESM) and NAVGEM (NAVY) on a seasonal time-scale.

Other interests include HYCOM developments, tides in the Gulf of Mexico and ocean-ice interactions.
